My trouble on a trip abroad (1)

Be careful! "One day" is not 24 hours in Lyon.

We love to travel around in Europe for delicious foods and drinks and small antiques.

To be more precise, it is my wife that likes small antiques and what I like are wines and beers.

Lyon was one of the attractive towns we wanted to visit as there is the second largest flea market in France, “Les Puces du Canal” and the famous market, “Paul Bocuse”.

Three years ago, when we visited my daughter and her family who lived in London to celebrate our granddaughter’s fourth birthday , we planned to take a short trip to Lyon.

Many of the European large airports have their own elegant names to be called. The Lyon airport, for example is called Saint-Exupéry International airport in the name of the author of the Prince of the Stars. How nice!

As the direct flight from London to Lyon left only from London Gatwick airport, we left Gatwick on 16:30 Oct 26(Fri) and arrived at Lyon at 18:30 on the same day.

We planned to quickly visit the flea market and “Paul Bocuse” the next day and leave Lyon early in the morning the day after and return to London in order to join the birthday party that evening.

Arriving at the Lyon airport, I stopped by the airport Tourist office to pick up the “Lyon City Card” which I had ordered on internet.

With this card we can ride all transportations and enter the museums in Lyon. We just insert the card into the slot. It costed 28 euros but you can be paid if you ride 3 trams. There are 4 types of City card: One day, 2 days, 3 days and 4 days.

As we travel around in Lyon only on Saturday, we bought One day city Card.

When I picked the city card I was asked by the Tourist office staff “You don’t use this card today ?” I answered “No, I don’t use this today because going from here to the hotel I will use the Uber taxi with credit card.”

She again asked me “Are you sure?” I should have asked her why she repeated that question. But I didn’t.

At the exit of the airport when I tried to call uber taxi, I found that my i-phone was broken. So I changed the plan to use the subway, walking to the entrance of the subway ticket machines.

As there was a long line in front of it, I instinctively picked up the city card from my pocket and inserted into the slot. Going thru the entrance looking aside at the people on the line, thinking in mind “Thank you my city card!”

I liked Lyon and the city card until the next morning when I found that the “One day” of the city card had already expired. (end)

Lione era una delle città attraenti che volevamo visitare poiché c'è il secondo mercato delle pulci più grande della Francia, "Les Puces du Canal" e il famoso mercato, "Paul Bocuse".

Tre anni fa, quando abbiamo visitato mia figlia e la sua famiglia che vivevano a Londra per festeggiare il quarto compleanno di nostra nipote, abbiamo programmato di fare un breve viaggio a Lione.

Molti dei grandi aeroporti europei hanno i loro nomi eleganti per essere chiamati. L'aeroporto di Lione, ad esempio, è chiamato aeroporto internazionale Saint-Exupéry nel nome dell'autore del Principe delle stelle. Che carino!

Ho risposto “No, oggi non lo uso perché andando da qui all'hotel userò il taxi Uber con carta di credito”.

Mi ha chiesto di nuovo "Sei sicuro?" Avrei dovuto chiederle perché ha ripetuto quella domanda. Ma non l'ho fatto. All'uscita dell'aeroporto, quando ho provato a chiamare l'uber taxi, ho scoperto che il mio i-phone era rotto. Così ho cambiato il piano per usare la metropolitana, camminando fino all'ingresso delle biglietterie automatiche della metropolitana. Dato che c'era una lunga fila davanti, ho preso d'istinto la carta della città dalla tasca e l'ho inserita nella fessura. Attraversando l'ingresso guardando a lato le persone in fila, pensando "Grazie mia carta della città!"

Lione e la city card mi sono piaciute fino al mattino dopo, quando ho scoperto che il “One day” della city card era già scaduto. (fine)
